I dooooooooont like this Lovely Finnish Summer Weather
I have always been made of sugar and for me its very easy to hide indoors with weather like this. There's Tall Ship Race in Helsinki and I want to goooooo.. but if it rains. I will not.
I just don't enjoy any outdoor activities when its raining and cold. So if I really don't have to- have to -have to go somewhere, I will not. Besides, Marc is only few months old and I really don't want him catch any flu either. Temperature changes are huge during the summer in Finland.. one day its +26, somedays has been even 40 in my balcony. Next week its +12 and feels like winter in Barcelona. Brrrr....
Better to stay home and fix in order more of my thousands of fotos and memories.
Like this.. outdoor Swimming Pool at Montjuic, very cool place! We liked going there with kids sometimes instead of the beach.. kids as they are.. they like jumping to the pool and.. its nice change for mommy too not to have home full of sand. The cost was about 15e for the 3 of us all day inside, there was a little cafe and full changing rooms with showers and toilet ( with toilet paper, wohoo) but the best is these amazing views over the city. The boring part of this pool is that its only open during couple months at the summer, around the school holiday period.
was made for Barcelona Olympics 1992, some pretty cool photos have been taken from there during the Pool Jumping competitions.
There is a supernice looking restaurant next to this pool, I dont remember its name but have always thought one day I go have dinner here.. must be awesome views in the night lights. Looks kinda adults only place and not the cheapest one either :)
This Montjuic is huge area, big hill, not really a mountain even though they call it a mountain. Its some old old based name to medieval times why its called Montjuic Mountain. The Olympic Stadium is there and many of the smaller arenas are also there. It was the main happening place when the Olympics where held in Barcelona 1992. Palau Jordi is a rather big indoor arena, still there and used in many concerts and happenings apart from the sports events, as well as the Olympic Stadium.
There is a fortress really at the top. Fortress of Montjuic, was used as a prison at the "1800 something" for many many years and I have been told that the Catalan nationalist leader Lluis Companys was executed there when Franco took over at 1940s. There are several places and streets named after Lluis Companys in Barcelona.. also the Olympic Stadium is named after him.
There are funky ways to go to Montjuic, you can also take a bus from Plaza España but way cooler way is to use the Funiculars, "funis"as we call them with kids. Its like a ski-lift at Alps, goes on top of all city as the other end station is at Barceloneta beach barrio. Amazing views and also amazing prices.... I dont find any fotos, I stole these from internet ;) its possible to take just one way as well and not return ticket.
The cheaper way, what we used is Funicular Railways.. goes from a metrostation under the hill and uses rails to go up to the hill. This one can be used with same public transportation ticket as the metros, trams and buses. Goes directly next to the swimming pool. Same one Funi-train goes up and down and takes less than 10mins one journey.
The entire area of Montjuic is huge and its really pretty calm and green up there! gardens and fountains and peaceful walks.. we really enjoyed with kids going up there.
Sometimes we walked back down through the parks to Plaza España and took the metro back from there.
Theres one another cool place at Montjuic.. Poble Espanyol. Spanish Village. Like a small village made of different parts of Spain, architecture and culture. Its very touristic, and expensive.. I think the entrance fee was around 20+e from the 3 of us.. but once we were there.. we went inside. It was winter time and very quiet time.. but we had a nice day. I've heard that on summer this place is full full fuuuulll of tourists. There's also couple bars and nightclubs inside the walls.. and when you go there, the entrance fee to the club covers the village as well. Also, some huge concerts are held there and then there is no extra entrance to the Poble. I've been once there in a nightclub and it was funky, all outdoors. The only problem was that when you get out of there at night time.. you are middle of nowhere and have to think how to get home :)
Everyone can have their own opinions how "spanish" this place is at the end :) but was a winter day, public holiday, schools closed.. was funky thing to do. But once you've seen it.. you have seen it..
There is also other things at Montjuic.. theres a cemetary with famous people buried in ..incl Mr Lluis Companys and Artist Joan Miro. This Catalan artist has also his own modern art museum at Montjuic, it has actually a rather big collection of his works, ( worth going )
I like this art piece of Joan Miro. Its called " La Danseuse, The Dancer"
Theres also few other museums at Montjuic
but the biggest and most known and a must is the Palau Nacional - The National Art Museum of Catalonia... Its huge!
Montjuic kinda ends with Palau Nacional.. and starts Plaza España... I find it cool! all the airport buses always drive through this square and I feel wohoo.. "Barcelona starts here.. Im home" ..
This Palau Nacional was reconstruted late 1920's, there was a huge International Exhibition in this square and these FIRA halls where build. Its still a FAIR ground and lots and lots and loooots happenings there through out the year.
The fountains in front of Palau Nacional are also called.. " The Magic Fountains" .. they have very cool light show there almost every evening during summer months.. I think from April to September.
as well as there is huuuuuuuuge fireworks show, every year at the end of La Merce festival.. its really big and there is hundreds of thousands of people watching every year. Last years Pyromusical was amazing! I wasnt there at the spot but they showed it also in tv.
There's an old Bullfighting Arena made for a shopping mall and at the top its only restaurants and amazing views over the plaza..
Thats Plaza España! Por Favor!
Here is a part of that cool Pyromusical they made last year.
