I used to think for years Amsterdam is the coolest place to live in.. but sorry guys. Its not.
You have no beach.
Beach is Best.
Barceloneta.. its not only a beach, its a beach neighbourhood. It has it all. I remember walking out of metro, 500 m or even more to the beach and already there you can smell the athmosphere, the sea, the people. Its just so cooooool. What I also like about the beach in BCN is that its not full of these guys renting sunbeds, there is hardly any! Chiringuitos all have few but mainly the beach is free for your own towels and stuff. Plenty of toilets and showers too.

ok, maybe I like the beach so much after living a year at Costa del Sol..
but we just loooove the beach, also with the Gangnam Style!
Once when we thought it was cooooold, for us it was winter and we hit the beach just for a walk and for piknik with kiddies.. we saw some people swimming.. laughing and swimming and we thought craaaaazy. I heard these guys speak English and when they walked past us I said smiling " u guys are mad it must be figging cold.." - they laughed back.. "nooooo its not cold, we are from Canada, for us its summer." And I remembered, oh yes, Im Finnish, in my country its like that too! ..
we climatize.. I guess..
Anyhow.. Barceloneta is cool. Its actually rather big neighborhood, old fisherman village made for a sand beach.. and not so long ago at all. The beaches were made for Barcelona Olympics! Before that it used to be just a docks for the fishermen.. This beach lives always, no matter the time of the day or the time of the year. Theres always people.. doing their things, minding their own business.. selling drinks, having picnics, playing, jogging, reading a book, ... just laughing or silent, but all are enjoying the life.
its music its bars its seafood its beach its chiringuitos its beach games and its fun.. you can smell the sea breeze, you can enjoy the surfers on the ice cold waves or hot summer day, you can be swetting and cool down with a mojito made in front of you., you can sit and dream with soft wind on your face under the sunset or stars.. You can do what ever you want. There is even couple parts of the beach for nudity.. no tan-lines, baby!
Barceloneta is Magic, everyday of the year.
Theres also nice restaurants and bars in the area, my little man's dad says this is the best Paella.. dont know.. havent tasted them all :) but it was good! very old restaurant, used to be a fish market.

Beach is also fun at night time.. lot of people sitting with friends and enjoying the evening.. just know that its also full of thieves and dont do like we.. heh.. One hot summer night after dinner I say " oooh I want to go to kiss on the beach .. kiss kisss kisssss lets go kiss on the beach" .. ok, we go kiss on the beach and next thing we know my bag is gone.. wallet keys camera phone.. all gone! oh well.. its life!
Beach just makes life better!
