Gaudi is Barcelona as well as the people, wine and bread. You can see his work all over and every single souvenier shop sells something about Gaudi.
The most famous of his works, ofcourse, Sagrada Familia!
Im so silly I just dig it.. hihii.. its mad its huge, its one insane project, - Exactly the reason I like it. Never ending story of the Catholic crazyness. Lets build something bigger than life, wohoo! nowadays its actually the Japanese people who fund it, no money given from Spanish or Catalan governments. The queues outside are also mad, whatever time of the year..you queue hours to get in. And as my friend unfortunately discovered, after queuing, on a windy day they close the upper parts for visitors.. so make sure u go on a sunny no windy day!
Another supersight unseen- Ive never been inside there, only seen it on tv... But outside a lot, I used to take kiddies there at least once a month on weekends to play. Theres a nice park next to it and I was thinking It wont do any harm to see this amazing church to remind us how small we are. There are talks and plans "the year it will be finished" but I find it hard to believe it ever will..
Last years of Gaudis life he even lived in a small house next to the church. Gaudi himself had a bit of a sad life and died similar way..he was hit by a tram and nobody knew who he was for couple of days and he died at the poor peoples hospital. He was Catalan, born in Reus and died in Barcelona but only afterwords he has become Mr Super Genious Bigger Than Life.
Here is couple minutes what Lonely Planet says about Sagrada
This area is a crazy busy neighbourhood to live in, but its only couple blocks around it. Dont need to go far and theres cute restaurants, cafes and shops and all back to normal prices. And despite its so busy, its popular area to live. I remember once I was watching a tv program and they interviewed one older lady who lives right next to it and she said she sits in her balcony everyday, prays few hours cuz she feels she is so blessed and lucky to see Sagrada Familia from her windows everyday. So.. who am I to judge? she might be happier than me :)
But the church is not the only thing makes one silent, Park Guell is also amazing place. How the hell they made it?? ( how the hell they made any of these things before "our times" .. )
Gaudi Park - Guell.. its fantastic! and as all other supersights..its also fuuuullll of turists... the good thing though of this park is that its huge and mostly the sightseeing buses with guides do one certain route and big part of the park is much more calm.. there is actually people reading books, walking their dogs and enjoying the " forest" like in any other park. Its only a small part of the park what is the tourist trap. Its not really a park, its actually like a forest, it is a forest! I like it a lot. Entire city of Barcelona is build on a hill and Guell is very high up so there is also beautiful views to all over the city.
Theres been plans and talking this park will get an entrance fee since the amount of visitors each year is mad, and this of course would bring millions to the city. But so far, its still free of charge - from the people to the people!
Apart from these.. Gaudi is on the streets on the city too.. here is few
Casa Battlo
Casa Milo - U see Im a guiri! I was told afterwords, its Casa Mila or La Pedrera, not Milo :D
Palau Guell
... his tiles are used for everything.. all kinds of stuff for sale in the souvenier shops inspired by these tiles Gaudi once created.
